"I wanted these recordings to sound huge. I wanted them to sound massive, gravitational, full of a swirling largeness that could eat up large portions of iTunes libraries. I wanted them to make the listener feel bigger and more full of color. I wanted them to sound like 100 vertical feet of mud and sweat covered in technicolor paint. I wanted them to sound like hot, neon laughter erupting violently from the beigest, sandiest mountain. I wanted them to be as persistent and as undeniably loud as my heart when it leaps into my throat. I wanted them to sound like Leonard Knight’s love for his fellow man. I wanted them to be full of chaos, hollering, blown-out speakers, honks, and glimmering crash cymbals. I wanted them to sound like looking out the window of an airplane and seeing how tiny the shadow of the wing is against the undulating woodgrain of waves on the ocean. I wanted them to sound like there are still things out in the world that could take your breath away, that are worth 8 hours of driving, that are unable to be effectively photographed or posted about on the Internet. I wanted them to sound like they would never end. I wanted them to sound like the barely-contained tempest of longing and desire I felt when I saw my now-girlfriend square-dancing through the square window in the door of a bar, her long, yellow hair bouncing behind her. I wanted them to sound like playing with these people makes feel - invincible, undeniable, full of electric joy and MIGHTY. And And And I wanted them to sound like a mountain of stone falling into an ocean of yellow paint."
